Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) is a compute environment accessed as needed over a network from a service provider. PaaS is used to develop and run software, as an alternative to designing, building, and installing an in-house development and production environment.
How platform-as-a-service works
PaaS enables the creation and deployment of web-based application software without the cost and complexity of buying and managing the underlying hardware, operating software, and utilities. The PaaS environment provides the entire IT resource stack as a service from a service provider over the Internet. It provides all of the facilities required to support the complete lifecycle of building and delivering web-based applications.
